Position Title 1.0 Math Department Head Position, Beaconsfield Junior High, St. John's. Location Beaconsfield Junior High – 210 Waterford Bridge Road, St. John's, A1E 1E2. Employment Full‑time, term position. Duties commence September 8, 2026, until January 25, 2027, or until the incumbent returns. Job Overview As Department Head, you are part of the school’s leadership team and will support the goals of NLSchools for student success in an inclusive, safe, and caring environment. You will provide direction and support to teachers within the department, assist in the development of annual staffing plans, coordinate professional development, and collaborate with regional and department staff on initiatives that foster student success. Key Responsibilities Provide instructional leadership and promote student learning, utilizing data and resources for continuous improvement. Coach and mentor new and experienced teachers on effective instructional and assessment practices. Coordinate professional development for program initiatives within the department. Lead and support the direction set forth by the department in collaboration with the school principal. Assist in the development of annual staffing plans and scheduling to meet student needs. Contribute to school‑based collaboration related to service delivery. Apply Atlantic Provinces Standards of Practice for School‑based Administrators in all duties. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Apply subject area expertise and teaching methodology in the department. Lead and provide direction in a collaborative team environment. Knowledge of child development and diverse learning needs. Experience with instructional leadership and continuous improvement. Coaching and mentoring ability. Professional development delivery within school and department initiatives. Initiate and implement change in consultation with the school principal. Ensure culturally relevant instruction and assessment for all students. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Education – Secondary Master’s Degree in a relevant area NL Teaching Certificate – Level IV or higher Major (10 courses) in applicable subject area Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience Experience as curriculum leader at the school and provincial level Compensation and Benefits Annual teacher salary scale as outlined in the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement, including benefits as per the agreement.
