Mount Sentinel is a Grade 7–12 school with a current enrolment of approximately 285 students. Job Description and Requirements The successful applicant will teach two blocks of Science 9 within a part-time rotating block schedule and will demonstrate an understanding of the BC Science curriculum and current assessment and reporting practices. The successful applicant will create engaging and accessible Science learning experiences that foster curiosity, scientific literacy, inquiry, problem solving, and connections between scientific concepts and real world contexts. Educational Qualifications A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch. Bachelor of Education with a major or minor in Science, or other appropriate educational background and/or successful experience teaching Science at the intermediate or secondary level. Understanding of the BC Science curriculum and current assessment and reporting practices. Demonstrated ability to support a diverse range of learners through differentiated and inclusive instructional practices. Experience using current educational technologies and learning management systems. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a school team. Required Competencies and Experience 1. Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences using backward design, differentiation, Universal Design for Learning, inquiry, problem-solving, and other evidence-informed instructional practices to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of a diverse range of learners. 2. Create safe, inclusive, culturally responsive, and mutually respectful learning environments that foster student engagement, belonging, self-regulation, and academic growth, providing all students with meaningful opportunities to achieve curricular outcomes. 3. Design and deliver culturally safe learning experiences that incorporate Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and ways of knowing and support the principles of reconciliation, equity, antiracism, and inclusion. 4. Demonstrate strong instructional practice and the ability to develop students’ understanding, skills, critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and confidence through a variety of instructional approaches and learning experiences. 5. Identify and respond to individual student strengths and gaps in learning through appropriate scaffolding, intervention, extension, differentiation, and multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning. 6. Collaborate effectively with colleagues and the School Based Team, including the Learning Support Teacher, Indigenous Education Teacher, Education Assistants, Counsellor, and other support staff, to identify and implement appropriate supports, adaptations, modifications, and differentiated learning opportunities for students, including those identified through Individual Education Plans. 7. Establish clear learning intentions and success criteria connected to BC curricular competencies, content, and Big Ideas, and communicate student learning and progress effectively to students and families. 8. Develop and use assessment and evaluation practices that support learning and align with the BC curriculum and K–12 Student Reporting Policy, including formative assessment, descriptive feedback, and opportunities for students to reflect on and demonstrate their learning in multiple ways. 9. Demonstrate proficiency with current educational technologies and a growth mindset toward learning and integrating new tools and applications that enhance student learning, engagement, accessibility, and communication.
